Chapter 56
Chapter56 A Gift From Theodore
Jaxton shot Bernie a subtle glance, signaling him to play along for now, but Bernie, consumed by fury, completely missed the cue.
Marissa smiled at the pair, singling out Jaxton with a nod of approval. "You're quite sharp, always looking out for the restaurant's interests, aren't you,Jaxton?"
Bernie rolled his eyes, tempted to lash out, but Marissa's soft gaze held a pressure that made defying Jaxton's orders feel impossible.
He mulled it over.
Before Jaxton arrived, he believed he hadn't said anything offensive to upset Marissa-just parroting a few of his girlfriend's complaints.
But he was just trying to seek justice for his girlfriend. Who could have predicted this outcome?
"So why are you still standing there? Go and deal with them," Marissa said, her voice slicing through the tension as she let out a sudden chuckle. "Going forward, I don't want Bernie and Jaxton setting foot in any Culinary Oasis location. Can you make that happen?" Her eyes shifted to the head waiter.
Glancing at the stunned Jaxton and Bernie, he replied firmly, "Yes, boss, I'll take care of it."
"Go on," Marissa said with a wave, her tone sharpening with a dangerous edge. "This restaurant does not tolerate abuse of power.I expect you to ensure this doesn't happen again."
The head waiter's piercing stare landed on Bernie."Did you hear that, Bernie? If you did, then hurry up and get out!"
Backed by Marissa's authority, the head waiter spoke quietly to avoid tarnishing Culinary Oasis'reputation, ensuring only those nearby could hear.
"Boss, I don't understand what's wrong with my actions!" Bernie protested.
Marissa ignored his whining, giving the head waiter a pointed look.
The head waiter's face turned stern as he snapped,"Do you really see nothing wrong with your actions? You and your girlfriend were openly bullying people."
Bolstered by Marissa's support, he radiated authority. "Weren't you the one stirring up trouble for Mr. Curtis just to defend your girlfriend?""Rosie said there was a man who nearly assaulted her. How could Mr. Curtis be that kind of person?"Bernie shot back, his glare venomous as he stared down the head waiter.
Desperate to avoid looking bad in front of Marc,Rosie jumped in, "I was telling Bernie about an old incident. It's just a mix-up. Why can't you let it go?"
Rosie's attempt to diffuse the tension backfired, only confirming Bernie's actions.
"I'm leaving this to you," Marissa said, dismissing their words and directing the head waiter before motioning for Marc to follow her out.
The head waiter nodded confidently. "Don't worry,I'll handle it."
"Boss, hold on!" Jaxton called out, ignoring the chaos as he chased after Marissa, shocked that she wanted to sack him to0.
The head waiter grabbed his arm. "You had better start packing too."
Unlike Bernie, who had landed his job through connections, Jaxton had earned his position fairly and squarely.
Watching Marissa leave, he sighed, then turned to scold the head waiter. "Why didn't you tell me the big boss was here when you called? You let me walk into that blind!"
The head waiter, who had only learned Marissa's identity just now, retorted, "Stop the complaints. You have heard the boss' order. You are fired. Your duties are mine now."
With that, he summoned the security team he had brought and barked, "Get them out!"
Rosie, about to leave with Miriam, bristled at the order and opened her mouth to protest, but a stone-faced guard silenced her, covering her mouth and hauling her off.
Soon, aside from Miriam, who stayed quiet, Bernie and Jaxton were also escorted out.
At Culinary Oasis's entrance, two men in suits stood on either side as Marissa stepped out.
"Hello, Miss Curtis," said one.
"Miss," said the other.
Noting their differing addresses, Marissa asked,"What is this about?"
The man on the left smiled. "I'm Mr. Brooks'assistant."
The man on the right shot him a glance before introducing himself. "I'm Mr. Marc Curtis'assistant."
Marissa gave a slight nod, urging Theodore's assistant to go on.
He pulled documents from his briefcase. "These are a gift from Mr. Brooks for you."
Marissa paused, wondering what Theodore was up to.
Marc's assistant saw the documents and produced his own, handing them over. "Miss Curtis, your brother asked me to give you these."
