Chapter 28

The Brooks family had their own private doctor, which was why Maxton found it strange to see Theodore visiting a hospital in person.

Who in all of Ozreka could be important enough for a man like Theodore, whose schedule was always packed, to come all the way here himself?

Could it be because of someone from the Curtis family? Maybe Rayden or Rita?

Maxton's brows drew together as he recalled his father's earlier call, the one urging him to come home because of the marriage alliance between the Brooks and Curtis families.

Was it Theodore and Holley they were talking about?

Among the younger generation of the Curtis family,Holley was the only eligible woman left.

Theodore and Maxton had been close since childhood. But as time passed, life pulled them in different directions, and what was left of their friendship now was mostly nostalgia.

As the elevator lights blinked upward, Theodore finally looked away and turned his attention to Maxton, who

was still dressed in his medical uniform. Adjusting his frameless glasses with a practiced motion, he said evenly, "I'm visiting Mr. Curtis."

Maxton froze for a second. So he'd been right after all.

Theodore's face remained unreadable, making it impossible to tell what he was really thinking.

"I see," Maxton muttered quietly. He wasn't interested in getting involved with the Curtis family again. He'd rushed back to perform Rayden's surgery, only to find they had already chosen another surgeon.

He wouldn't say he was furious, but there was still a trace of resentment buried inside him.

He didn't have time to tag along with Theodore either. His grandfather had heard that Dr. Moore was at Harmony Hospital and insisted on coming over, so Maxton needed to pick him up.

"You go ahead. I'll see you tonight," he said, holding up his buzzing phone. "We'll talk later."

"Sir, will you be going to the gathering tonight?" Wilbur asked.

"No," Theodore replied coldly as the elevator doors slid open. Stepping out first, he left no room for doubt. He knew exactly where his priorities lay between the Curtis family and the Wallace family.

The fifth floor of Harmony Hospital was exceptionally well soundproofed. With the door closed, not a single sound from Rita's room reached Rayden's room.

After Marissa gave her post-surgery instructions, Carla and the others arrived soon after to check on Rayden's condition.

The success of the operation spoke for itself. However, what truly left everyone astonished and secretly envious was how quickly the entire procedure had been completed.

"Dr. Moore's skills are on another level. It's a shame l didn't get to see her in action," said a doctor, adjusting his glasses with a sigh. "Do you think we could get him to give a lecture here someday?"

"Forget it," his colleague teased with a laugh. "Even Dr.Wallace hasn't had the chance to meet Dr. Moore yet. What makes you think you could? Are you richer or more influential than him?"

"Hey, can't I dream? You must be thinking the same thing I am-meeting Dr. Moore in person!"

The group of doctors exited Rayden's room in cheerful spirits. They hadn't seen Dr. Moore operate, but even his neatly written post-surgery notes had left a lasting impression.

The Curtis brothers, who were often scattered with

work, had all stayed back in Ozreka that day just to make sure Marissa didn't feel left out or unwelcome at home,

Once Rayden's stable condition was confirmed, they returned to their own affairs. Inside the room, only Corrine, who had just woken up, remained with a few household staff and the bodyguards stationed outside.

Ever since earlier incident, the bodyguards had learned their lesson, They now sat straight-backed outside the VIP suite, fully alert and unwilling to let their guard down even for a second.

When Corrine opened her eyes, a servant immediately approached with a glass of warm water, gently updating her on everything that had happened while she was asleep.

She'd only been resting for a little over an hour, but for someone who had been haunted by nightmares for weeks, it was the first time she'd woken up feeling somewhat at peace.

Knowing her husband's condition had stabilized,Corrine's focus quickly drifted elsewhere, She set down her cup, cleared her throat, and began scanning the room, looking for her daughter.

"Where's my child?" Corrine asked, confusion lacing her tone as she turned to the servant standing nearby.

The servant, who had just started her shift and didn't know much about Marissa, thought Corrine was referring to Andrew. Setting the cup on the table, she smiled politely. "Andrew had an exam this afternoon, so Danny drove him there."

"I'm not talking about Andrew," Corrine replied. "I'm asking about my daughter."

The servant blinked in confusion. "Madam, you don't have a daughter."

What daughter?

Corrine's expression hardened. "You don't know either?" she asked, turning to the others in the room.

Two of the servants shook their heads, while one hesitated before saying, "Madam, before I started my shift, my husband mentioned something about it, but we haven't seen anyone unfamiliar around here."

The woman speaking was Greta Tucker, wife of Brenden, the butler. She had heard about Marissa but had never actually met her.

Corrine's tone sharpened. "Where's my phone?"

"Here." A servant quickly handed her the fully charged phone.

Without wasting another second, Corrine tapped on Marc's contact and, the moment he answered,

demanded coldly, "Where's your sister?"
